Food Pantry
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a
stranger and you invited me in…” Matthew 25:35
Here’s a brief review of the Savoy UMC Food Ministry work in 2018.
• Savoy UMC Food Bank Food Deliveries: Volunteers from our church made 133 deliveries in 2018, filling referrals
from both our own congregation and empty tomb. That means that 892 people have been fed this past year from
our food pantry.
• Shadowwood Food Distribution: Once each month, food from the Midwest Food Bank was distributed at
Shadowwood Mobile Home Park by church volunteers. The food was given to an average of 18 families per month
in 2018, meaning that about 60 people each month received food that they needed.
• Assistance for Canteen Run: Each week, food from the Midwest Food Bank was used by volunteers to make sack
lunches for Canteen Run distribution. 7281 sack lunches were provided in 2018.
• Thanksgiving Baskets: In November of 2018, 160 baskets were provided to 603 people.
Your loving gifts of food, money, time, energy, and prayers have made possible the feeding of families in our
community and in our church family. Thank you for sharing God’s abundance in your lives with those in need!
Please join us in thanking Jan and Charlie Rohn! After years of faithful service, they have “retired” from
facilitating food pantry deliveries. We appreciate their hard work, leadership, perseverance, and dedication!
Recently, Deb Foertsch has begun coordinating food pantry deliveries, Cindy Cook is facilitating food
distribution at Shadow Wood, and Jean Huddleston will be collaborating as part of the team.
