WELCOMING NOTE

ASSOC. PROF. DR MOHD FAUZI HAMAT,
Director of Academy of Islamic Studies, University of Malaya

Alhamdulillah, all praise to Allah by whose grace and blessings have enable us to gather in the International
Webinar on Da’wah and Human Development 2021 (IWOD 2.0). For this year, “Professional Da’ie – Pillar of
the Ummah Glory” is the theme chosen which give emphasis on issues related to da’ie professionalism, roles,
and identity development as well as their strategies and challenges in performing da’wah.
On this theme, the Academy of Islamic Studies welcomes collective and individual experience, ideas,
methods, concepts, visions, and other possible alternatives in which we envision in order to intensify the
professionalism of all da’ies. As already known, the work of da’ies within this new modern era faces great
challenges specifically in dealing with human issues and problems. Nevertheless, a da’ie with sufficient
knowledge and skills may have the capability to play his or her roles needed in our society. Such roles are
crucial since the profession is not just in conveyance of the Islamic teachings but stretches out to the limits

of tarbiyyah and other da’wah activities that invite the society to goodness, and at the same time refrain
them from any circumstances that can be detrimental or not in accordance with Allah’s injunction.
In doing so, people in this line of profession shoulder a great weight of responsibilities to systemize
and apply practical da’wah methodologies or approaches. The efforts are coherent with what the Prophet
Muhamad SAW himself had demonstrated as a notable da’ie. Therefore, it is very critical for all da’ies to pay
attention to the important aspects of professionalism in order to be relevant as da’wah agents or workers for
the present time, and of the future.
In keeping with this spirit, I as the Director of Academy of Islamic Studies, welcome the effort which is

put together by the Department of Dakwah and Human Development, and Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia
in organizing this webinar. It is hoped that all local and international participants who are presenting their
papers will be able to bring together a wide range of thoughts and ideas in order to develop professional
groundworks within the field of da’wah and human development.

           Thank you.
