BIODATA
Prof Emeritus Dato’ Paduka
Dr Mahmood Zuhdi Bin Hj Abd Majid
➢ Emeritus Prof. of University of Malaya. He was born in Kota Bharu, Kelantan in
1945. His schooling began in 1950 under the guidance of his own father at
Madrasah Majidiyah, Kg. Kayu Rendang, Melor, Kota Bharu, Kelantan. At the
secondary level, he studied at Ma'had Muhammadi Kota Bharu, Kelantan. His
Higher Education also began in the same state, namely at the Kelantan Islamic
Higher Education Foundation which was later absorbed as the Islamic Academy
of the University of Malaya. At the postgraduate diploma level, he earned his
Diploma in Teaching Arabic from Ain Syams University, Cairo. His scholarship
was obtained from al-Azhar University, Egypt in the field of Sharia, and from
the University of Kent, England in the field of Southeast Asian Studies while his
PhD from the University of Malaya in the field of Shariah.
➢ He has published a total of 35 books and contributed articles in 26 others. He is
an active person as an academician, especially in leading institutions either in
public universities or in private institutions. He is also active in the activities of
Islamic organizations. Now, he is the Chairman of Majlis Dakwah Negara.
