Mark Catesby fell crossing High Holburn and was brought by carriage
to his home behind St Luke's Church on Old Street where he died on
23 December 1749. On 26 December he "was buried in the Church
yard of St Luke" and his name was inscribed in the parochial register
as "Marke Sketesby". The cause of his death was given as "Age".
His widow, Elizabeth, died of consumption in February 1753,
and she was also interred in the graveyard of St Luke's Church.
They were survived, as far as we can determine by their
daughter Ann and their youngest son Mark, as well as by Mrs
Catesby's daughter by her first marriage, Elizabeth Rowland.
St Luke's Church, Old Street, now a concert venue called "LPO St Luke's", and base for
the London Symphony Orchestra's community and education programme.
