BACTERIA
(a) Problem statement
What is the relationship between the concentration of antibiotic with the size of clear area?

(b) Aim of experiment
To study the effect of different concentrations of an antibiotic on bacterial growth

(c) Hypothesis
The higher the concentration of antibiotic, the larger the size of clear region formed.

(d) Variables
MV: concentration of antibiotic
RV: the size of clear area
CV: type of bacteria

(e) Apparatus and materials
Sterile nutrient agar, antibiotic disc with a high concentration, antibiotic disc with a low
concentration, bacterial culture solution, petri dish, forceps, syringe

(f) Procedure PANITIA SAINS DAERAH KINTA UTARA
1. Fill a petri dish with 5cm3 of sterile nutrient agar and 1cm3 of bacterial culture.
2. Place an antibiotic disc with a high concentration and another antibiotic disc with low
concentration on the surface of the nutrient agar.
3. Cover the petri dish with a lid and seal the lid by using cellophane tape.
4. Invert the petri dish and leave it aside for two days.
5. Measure the size of the clear area and record it in a table.
6. Plot graph of size of clear area against concentration of antibiotic.
