2.2.2 ‘Audio and Video to Audio and Video’ intercom system
The ‘Audio and Video’ to ‘Audio and Video’ intercom systems are composed of cameras
and audio devices with recording and reproducing functions, so the users of that system
can both see and hear each other.
NOTE: A variation of that system is a door phone system, where only the users inside the
building have the ability to see the users outside of the building, but both users can hear
each other.
Figure 4 - A door phone system
Both these categories can have extended functions, such as sending and receiving data
to other devices or systems. A common example is the door opening function by pressing
a button, or recording the calls to a video recording device. Moreover, the intercom
systems have also started to use IP technology as transmission medium, extending their
functions.
3 Integration of the Multimedia Systems control into Building
Management Systems
3.1 Basic controls on the Multimedia Systems
In the framework of building automation we focus on controlling multimedia systems that
offer extended functions realized with a bus system.
Therefore, we can maximize the control of the audio system by implementing the
following functions on KNX:
Zone On/Off
Volume adjustment
Source selection
Mute
Tone control
Zone broadcast
Select radio station
etc..
A feedback response can be received for the following functions too:
Amplifier On/Off
Volume level
