1.6 Time and Event Control
There are simpler application devices available either for time control functions or for
event programs. A scene is for example a special type of event control. There are also
devices (apart from visualisation programs) which can be used for both types of control.
1.6.1 Simple Time Control
The conventional timers for the KNX use a binary application program as an interface to
the bus. This program monitors the PEI which is switched as a 4x input and converts the
defined switching states into bus telegrams. The input of switching points, day/week and
year programs can only be carried out at the device itself. It is not possible to assign
parameters using ETS or any other software. The operator interface which is used for
entering the data is often comprehensively equipped but does not offer a clear overview.
There is in particular no option of printing out or even storing the entered data.
1.6.2 Day / Period and Year Programs
Software timers on the other hand offer a higher level of convenience for the user in
terms of adjustability, clarity and data storage. The output functions can generally be
carried out via several 100 group addresses and on any EIS data standard. The
configuration of these timers can already be carried out in ETS in the case of some
manufacturers.
