THE MUSLIM EDUCATIONAL METHODOLOGY 187
A. MINGANA, ROBSON, AND THE TRANSMISSION OF I:IADITH ANTHOLOGIES
Rev.Mingana published a work on the diffusion of the $a}fi~ of al-Bukhari,
whileJames Robson worked on the transmissions of the $~'i~ of Muslim,
Sunan of Abu Dawud, Sunan of at-Tirmidhi, Sunan of an-Nasa'i, and Sunan
of Ibn Maja. Though both works are riddled with grievous misconceptions
I will cast aside my comments for the time being, and suffice by copying
Robson's diagram for the transmission of Sunan IbnMiijaY

A more promising diagram comes from Ishaq Khan in al-Usiil as-Sitta wa
Ruwiituhii,48 though it stillfailsto convey the full scope of transmission. Here
is the diagram relating to Ibn Qjidarna only (the original is in Arabic):
47 J. Robson, "The Transmission of Ibn Maga's Sunan", Journal qf Semitic Studies,
vol. 3 (1958),pp. 129-141. Only the portion relating to Ibn Qudama is shown.
