1.2 WHY WE NEED TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY SYSTEM?
To be effective in performing quality improvement in manufacturing or service
industry, one need to address the needs of the system as a whole. In this chapter,
we have attempted to address quality improvement techniques from an integrative
perspective.
To be successful, a business or organization must balance the needs of these
different functions around a coherent business vision and strategy. The objective of
the quality system is to satisfy the customer. Customer satisfaction will translate to
higher customer retention, which finally leads to improved profitability.
A quality system as shown in Figure 1 uses the business model with a focus on the
customer and includes the dynamics of continual improvement, change, planning,
and renewal. Continual development is necessary for the company to learn and grow.
