Finally, management also must ensure that there are results. Result to the problem
must be obtained and too many problems solving process will delay the solving

method. Management must monitor the process closely in order to ensure to have a
high probability of success. But as the process matured, an occasional failure is
acceptable because team member must be given a chance for failure and they can

learn from the failure and build up to it.

                 6.3 PRECAUTIONS

Implementing the use of the quality tools and the whole concept of process
improvement is representing a profound change from the way things have been done
in the past. People generally resist changes until they see that it will benefit them.

That is why management must lead the change and has to convince everyone that
the effort will benefit all. Those who are against or undermine the effort must be
rapidly converted, removed or transferred from the operation. Management must use

the same techniques that have been taught to employees to shows that management
really believes and committed with the process improvement. But the most important
is that management must support and facilitate the employees as they use the

techniques of total quality to solve problems and improve processes.

This quality improvement process is a long process and we cannot expect the result
to occur overnight. But during the long process, there are certain criteria that have to
be in management effort all the time. The four criteria that need to be practiced

during implementing quality tools are as follows:

                        a. Communicate. Let everyone know what is going on and what the results are.

Help them understand why it is good for them and also the enterprise.

                        b. Never assume that you know it all. The employees who live with the

process day in and day out know far more about what is wrong with them and
how to improve them than the manager. Never delude self in thinking that you

have learned all you need to know about total quality. It will never happen
because total quality is a dynamic and ever-expanding concept.

                        c. Start slowly. Don’t try to organize an entire factory or office complex into
improvement teams and train everyone in sight on day one. Take it one or
