who were still residing at the house, he said. He received death threats on social media. The Pasco supervisor said he
had to enlist the aid of local & federal law enforcement. “The fact that an election administrator has to deal with the FBI
Joint Task Force on Domestic Terrorism, if that’s not troubling & (doesn’t) shock individuals to their core, certainly
nothing will,” Corley said. But what’s coming might be worse, Corley & others involved in the new group fear. “The
hostility & the tone of those reaching out to our offices is palpable,” Corley said. FL is among dozens of states that
have enacted new elections laws that, among other things, make it more difficult to vote by mail. FL’s law is the subject
of at least four pending federal lawsuits. The new laws, in part, are what prompted the creation of the legal defense
network, its leaders said. “We are really concerned about this potentially harming the administration of elections, & for
voters to start wondering about the impartiality of the administration of elections,” Ginsberg said. “It’s a huge problem.”
The FL law, approved by GOP legislators this spring, also includes a requirement that election workers staff “drop
boxes,” where voters can submit mail-in ballots, at all times. Supervisors who violate the requirement face $25,000
fines. “The net effect for my colleagues & I in FL is going to be, in a state where we’re all about fiscal responsibility,
doubling up on those resources. That’s taxpayer money. I’m not going to risk having someone snap a photo because
one of my co-workers had a potty emergency,” Corley said. “So the net effect is going to be hundreds of thousands of
dollars additional cost to taxpayers. For what? It’s ... No words.”
ONE LAST BIG SALE Already one of the wealthiest members of the Legislature, Sen Gainer, R-Panama City, has
seen his net worth grow 25% after selling the remainder of his fleet of auto dealerships. The 6 dealerships sold for $21
million. “This made quite a variance in my net worth as well as my cash on hand,” Gainer said in a statement he
included with an annual financial disclosure report that he submitted Aug. 26 to the state Commission on Ethics. “I kept
the cash in the businesses as well as my personal vehicles, antique cars, receivables, & non-essential items, I also
kept my interest in warranty reinsurance companies. This transaction represented 55 yrs in the automobile business.”
Gainer’s net worth stood at $59.445 million, up from $47.24 million in a report filed last year. He first got into the auto
dealership ownership game in 1968. While disclosure reports were due July 1, lawmakers had until Sept. 1 to submit
Reports had been posted on the commission’s website by all but two legislators --- Rep. Kamia Brown, D-Ocoee, &
Rep. Omari Hardy, D-West Palm Beach. The commission imposes a late fee of $25 a day starting Sept. 2.
WALK IT OFF Gov DeSantis, it appears, would hate for his Tampa Bay Buccaneers to get tripped up by National
Football League’s COVID-19 protocols. With the team he’s rooted for since growing up in Dunedin 100% vaccinated &
its Hall of Fame-bound quarterback Tom Brady recently acknowledging he caught the virus shortly after winning the
Super Bowl in Feb, DeSantis opined against the NFL rules for vaccinated players. “I hope that there'll be some
rationality brought upon this,” DeSantis said. “I mean, if somebody has had COVID & is vaccinated, all these different
things, you know, I would hate to see them put out just for getting some type of asymptomatic, you know, positive test.
So, hopefully they'll have some rationality to that, & we'll be full strength every single day throughout the season.”
Among the NFL’s rules, vaccinated players who test positive must isolate immediately. If they remain symptom-free
they can return as soon as 48 hours if they test negative in tests taken 24 hour apart. Another ex, players who
experience symptoms must wait until they are asymptomatic for 48 hrs & record back-to-back negative tests 24 hrs
apart. Brady told the Tampa Bay Times he expects this year could be more difficult than last year because of the
spread of the delta variant. "I actually think it's going to play more of a factor this year than last year, just because of
the way what we're doing now & what the stadium is going to look like & what the travel is going to look like & the
people in the building & the fans," Brady told the Times.
TWEET OF THE WEEK: “If you say someone is off his rocker then aren’t you saying he was at least temporarily
insane & not accountable for his actions? DeSantis is essentially admitting this guy wasn’t in control of his actions.” ---
Central FL resident & former NBA coach Stan Van Gundy (@RealStanVG), reacting to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ description
of a man arrested in a mass shooting in Lakeland.
