Pump Bracket mod S110
I have a 110 fitted with a 3YM30 Yanmar.
To try and adjust the tension on the drive belt or remove it for inspection
has been a nightmare in as its right down in the engine well and difficult to
access from underneath or either side.
The problem is trying to get a spanner on the head of the nut right at the
base which had to be loosened off to allow the
bracket holding the pump to swivel and then to be
actually able to turn it more than a fraction before
needing to reset the spanner. The space is restrict-
ed by the engine tray, the drive belts, hoses and
the heads wall . The head of this nut is partly hid-
den by the pulley wheel of the pump. The solution
is simple and once done adjustment or removal
takes minutes and could easily be done on a bounc-
ing boat if the belt failed at sea.
The picture (left) shows the belt on and the pump
pulley partly covering the adjustment slot.
Here is the solution, It’s a bit embarrassing as it’s such a simple mod but
makes the job easy ever after. The original bracket is just a poor design.
Remove the pump on its bracket.
This will take anything up to three quarters of an hour and a lot of swear-
ing. Remove the mounting bracket attached to the engine, remembering
there is a small bolt going up vertically from the
angle at the base of the bracket, through a spacer
and into the bottom of the engine.
The modification consists of two parts
Firstly grind off the existing stud and keep the
bracket for later.
Next cut the bracket holding the pump at right an-
gles and just above the curved adjustment slot.
Get a 1 cm.strip of steel the same thickness as the
