MIND OVER MATTER
Is exercise your go-to stress management
strategy? New workouts that focus on strengthening your
mind as much as your body are set to take off. Similar to exercise,
practising mindfulness can help manage anxiety and depression.
So, with the knowledge that we can use and combine the two
and help ease underlying tension, suggests the idea of fitness is
evolving. There will be a greater emphasis on what happens
before and after working out, as well as during. Technology plays
a big part in this, with apps that allow us to track our slumber and
help improve sleep patterns, as well as meditation. Ben Tipney,
former Olympic rower and co-founder of London-based gym
Rowbots, has created classes that aim to push participants to
their physical limits, while coaches impart psychologist-approved
mental techniques to help with a range of challenges, from
overcoming distraction to managing energy resources.
WHAT’S THE ALTERNATIVE?
Flaky scalp
Whether you’re overusing dry shampoo or have dandruff, here’s everything you
need to know about treating an itchy scalp…
1 Baking soda isn’t only a baking essential, but it can help remove excess oils
and balance pH levels, making it a great DIY dandruff shampoo. Simply mix two
tablespoons with water until you reach a paste consistency. For best results, part
your hair in sections and apply a few drops of olive oil before spreading the paste
on your head, and let it sit for ive to 10 minutes. Make sure you thoroughly rinse
the mixture out.
2 Bananas and avocados are great treatments because they are both extremely
moisturising, which means they can reduce those dry lakes and inlammation,
think of it as smoothie for your scalp. Avocados are
also rich in antioxidants, which keep your skin cells
on your head happy and healthy, while bananas are
especially great for conditioning the hair.
3 Unscented and sulphate free, Hope’s Relief Herbal
Shampoo (£16.99, revital.co.uk) is a combination
of organic herbal extracts, vitamins and manuka
honey – making it great for sensitive skin, eczema,
psoriasis, dermatitis and dandruff. The formulation
is based on the same active ingredients as in its
Hope’s Relief cream (£17.49, revital.co.uk) which
helps regenerate, repair and revive dry, sensitive and
itchy skin.
