                Defining the physical attributes and
fi ghting styles of the lead characters
was only part of the stunt crew’s
job—they then had to be incorporated
             into thrilling, edge-of-the- seat action
             sequences. All stunt choreography
has to be cinematically friendly, while
adapting to the style, ability, and
strengths of the cast, and the team had
their work cut out for them staging the
             epic train heist on Vandor.
The train itself was nearly 40 feet
long, 12 feet wide, and mounted on
a huge gimble some 30 feet above
the studio fl oor. The gimble itself was
capable of moving from a zero position
to plus and minus 15 degrees, then
to 90 degrees on a cue, repeatedly—
usually with the cast on board! It was a
long and challenging sequence to shoot.
“Most gimbals give only 20 degrees
of movement, so we had to build “The team had
something bespoke,” says special effects their work
supervisor Dominic Tuohy. “We built a
rig that weighed four tons and could cut out for
move in two seconds. That’s a lot of them staging
inertia, a lot of mechanical advantage
and disadvantage to be in control of, the epic
while keeping the artists safe. It was train heist
             quite a challenge.”
                                                                                                                      on Vandor.”
