Wildlife of the Galapagos Islands
Island life
The volcanic archipelago that inspired Charles Darwin and
has fascinated scientists for years is home to a vast number
of amazing species found nowhere else on Earth
Galapagos fur seal
These grey brown seals can be found
on the rocky shores of the islands. The
breeding season lasts from August to
November. During this time the large
colonies of fur seals are divided into
separate areas as each mother seal claims

main food choices are squid and fish.

Flightless cormorant
The only cormorant that has lost the ability
to fly, this bird is the largest member of its
family at a height of one metre (39 inches)
and a weight of 2.5 to four kilograms (5.5
to 8.8 pounds). The flightless cormorant
dwells on the rocky shores of volcanic
islands and forages in the coastal waters
for fish, eels and small octopuses.
