These are books.

II. Demonstrative Pronouns (Mga Pantukoy na salita)
                    Ito This
Iyan That (an object closer to the person being addressed than the speaker)

Iyon That (an object far from both the person speaking and the person being
                           addressed)

III. Pagkaka-ayos ng mga Salita (Word Order)
In Filipino, the subject may come either before or after the predicate. For
                 example, we can say both:

                    Lapis ito. Literally, Pen this.
Ito ay lapis. Literally, This is pen.

In conversational Filipino, it is more natural for the predicate to precede the
subject. However, in written Filipino, both are used.

            IV. The particle “ay”
The particle “ay” has several uses. In this lesson, it is used as “the verb to be”—
for example, “Ito ay libro.” (This is a book.) However, bear in mind that in
conversational Filipino, it is more common to say “Libro ito.” (literally, “Book

                 this.”)

Dayalogo (Dialogue): May Papel Ka Ba? (Do you have
            paper?)

Read the dialogue below. After completing this chapter, practice this dialogue using
              your own information.

MARIA : May papel ka ba?
                                Do you have paper?

             PEDRO : Oo.
                                Yes.
MARIA : Pakibigyan mo ako ng papel.
                                Please give me paper.

             PEDRO : Aba, siyempre.
                                Of course.

             MARIA : Salamat.
