              Practice  saying  these  sentences  aloud,  to  get  a  feel  for  how  this  chapter's

              vocabulary and grammar work in Filipino. In some instances, two possible word
              orders are given. Study these two possibilities. Again, both the natural and literal
              translations are provided so that you can study Filipino sentence structures.
                 1. Ito ay bag ni Clara.                 This is Clara’s bag. (literally, This is bag
                                                             possessive marker Clara.)

                 2. Bag ito ni Clara.                    This is Clara’s bag. (literally, Bag Bag this
                                                             possessive marker Clara.) This sentence
                                                             structure is more common in
                                                             conversational Filipino.
                 3. Pula ang bag ni Clara.               Clara’s bag is red. (literally, Red marker bag
                                                             possessive marker Clara.)

                 4. Nasa ibabaw ng mesa ang              Clara’s bag is on the table. (On top marker
                     bag ni Clara.                           table marker bag possessive marker
                                                             Clara.)
