This Anglo-French scent hound is one of three color-based
varieties recognized as separate breeds. It originated in the 1800s
from a mix of Bleu de Gascogne and Gasçon Saintongeois hounds
(see p.163) crossed with English Foxhound (see p.158). Most live
in kennels in France and are used to hunt deer in packs. Very few
of these powerful, sturdy hunters
are kept as domestic pets.
