Ten years ago, overfished waters on the west coast of
Scotland became the first in a new breed of marine
nature reserves. The results have been spectacular, as

                              Springwatch producer Chris Howard discovers.

           After years of dredging left
           the Isle of Arran’s seabed
           practically bare, species
Howard Wood such as these brittlestars
           and queen scallop are now
           rapidly re-establishing.
