Chameleon
ith the ability to change color, chameleons are some
W of the most magical members of the animal kingdom.
They use different colors to send messages to each other, such as
“I’m angry!,” or to help control their temperature. Most chameleons
live in forests and are expert climbers. They have feet that can grip
tightly and a flexible tail that can wrap around branches as they
move through the trees.
The chameleon’s hidden secret is a long tongue like a catapult.
When a chameleon fires it at an insect or spider, it stretches to hit
the target. Smack! The sticky end holds the prey, then pulls it right
back into the chameleon’s mouth.
A chameleon can’t match every background,
but some chameleons change color to help hide
themselves in their natural surroundings.
