Two of the peacock spider’s eight eyes are
so massive, they take up half its head.
Spider
I f you had to design the ultimate hunter, you might give it eight
eyes, eight legs, and two sharp fangs. This is exactly what a
spider has. It uses its fangs to stab prey, injecting venom that stops it
from moving. Next the spider wraps it in threads of sticky silk, ready
to eat later, like a gruesome packed lunch. Don’t worry, though—
only a few spiders are dangerous to humans.
The male of the tiny peacock spider is brightly colored, and is also a
great dancer. As if moving to music, he waves two legs in the air and
jumps around so his colors sparkle. If he’s lucky, the female likes his
dance. If not, she might eat him!
