I magine having a nose the
length of a tennis racket!
The swordfish’s long beak is
actually part of its upper jawbone,
and it has a sharp point, just like a
sword. You won’t be surprised to learn that
it is used to kill prey, but probably not in the
way you think. Rather than using its pointed bill
to spear smaller fish, a swordfish slashes its prey
with the sword’s sharp edges. The meal is swallowed
whole because, amazingly, this terrifying fish has no teeth!
Swordfish have a special system that keeps their eyes
and brain warm in cold water. This helps them see and
hunt for food. Favorite snacks include tuna and squid.
