Each year a moose’s antlers can grow to weigh more

                                   than 44 lb (20 kg). That’s like carrying a

large border collie on its head.

S ee that lump under the moose’s chin? To us, it looks pretty

strange, but to a female moose, it looks great—so the male

moose gives it a wobble to show off. He also impresses with his huge

antlers. Antlers are made of bone and, amazingly, they are replaced
every year. They grow in summer, then drop off again in winter.

Moose are the largest deer in the world. They eat leaves and water
plants, but in winter they live mainly on twigs. That’s right: tasty twigs!
They are great swimmers, and in summer moose love to soak in lakes.

Bears and wolves are their main enemies. Moose kick them with

sharp hooves to drive them away.
