Church of Our Lady
before Týn
Set back behind a row
of arcaded buildings, the
many-spired twin towers
of the church dominate
the eastern end of Old
Town Square. The Gothic,
Renaissance and Baroque
features of the interior create
striking contrasts.
Old-New Synagogue
Prague’s oldest synagogue
dates from the 13th century.
Its Gothic main portal is carved
with a vine which bears twelve
bunches of grapes symbolizing
the tribes of Israel.
Basilica of St James
Jewish Consecrated in 1374, this
Quarter basilica was restored to new
Baroque glory after a fire in
1689. Typical of its grandeur
is this 18th-century monument
to chancellor Jan Vratislav of
Mitrovice. Fine acoustics and a
superb organ make the church
a popular venue for concerts.
