O RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR THE OPEN MEAT GOAT SHOW
W 1. Competition is open to all goats meeting the eligibility requirements of the American Boer Goat Association
(ABGA).
S 2. Number of entries per exhibitor per class will not be limited; however, premiums will be paid for a maximum of
two (2) placements per exhibitor per class.
3. Entry fee is $5 per head per premium class entered and must be entered online and fees paid online.
4. The Health Regulations of the Veterinary Division of the N.C. Department of Agriculture will be strictly enforced. Be sure
to read these under “Rules and Regulations of the Livestock Division” before entering. Animals cannot be unloaded until
checked in. All sheep and goats must comply with USDA Scrapie Eradication Program Guidelines. (State request form can be
found behind Livestock Entry Form.)
5. No artifi cial coloring will be allowed.
BOER GOAT REQUIREMENTS FOR SANCTIONED ABGA SHOW ENTRIES: This show is open to all exhibitors. There is no
limit on the number of animals that can be entered in a class by an exhibitor, unless the sponsoring show deems this limit absolutely
necessary. Substitutions are allowed as long as the animal being substituted qualifi es for the class in which it is entered.
ELIGIBILITY OF ANIMALS: All goats must be registered in the herd book of a recognized association before August 8, 2018. The
original registration certifi cate is required. Animals must be registered in the name of the exhibitor and must have been owned by the
exhibitor on or before August 8, 2018. Custom fi tters, if different from Owner/Exhibitor, will register with Superintendent if Owner/
Exhibitor will not be in attendance at show.
ENNOBLED HERD BOOK POINTS: Goats entered under their ABGA registration number and presenting their ABGA Certifi cate
of Registration will be eligible to earn points for their actual placing in the show as described in the ABGA “Criteria for Ennoblement
of a Boer Goat.”
TATTOOS: All goats must have legible tattoo(s) or other means of permanent identifi cation consistent with their registration
certifi cate or the animal will be disqualifi ed. If the animal has a microchip as its permanent identifi cation, the exhibitor is responsible
for providing a microchip reader and must bring paper.
COMPUTING AGES: Birth dates, as listed on the registration certifi cate, will be used to determine the class divisions. The show
date will be the base date in computing all ages. Inclusive birth dates will be listed for each class.
CLASSES: All animals must be registered purebred, full blood or percentage blood Boer goats. Percentage doe classes are for goats
50% to 87.5% Boer; Fullblood classes are for does that are 15/16 blood (93.7%) and higher and 31/32 blood (98.8%) and higher for
bucks. Progeny of fresh does will NOT be allowed in the ring. The Champion and Reserve classes will be chosen from the 1st and 2nd
place animals in that division of the show.
DISQUALIFICATION: Any goat showing any pronounced defect or abnormality will be barred from the showing in any of the
breeding classes. Artifi cial coloring will be a disqualifi cation. Illegible tattoos or tattoos inconsistent with registration papers will
result in disqualifi cation. Any doe over 24 months of age that has not kidded and cannot prove a current pregnancy will not be allowed
to show.
BUCKS MUST BE KEPT CLEAN AND FREE OF BAD ODORS. DIRTY BUCKS WITH EXCESS BUCK ODOR WILL NOT BE
ALLOWED IN THE BARNS NOR WILL THEY BE PERMITTED TO SHOW.
