casual manner. Doc Stenerton’s ears pricked up at hearing that bombshell. From the remains of the
female mummies he had seen no evidence that the Kryst produced and laid eggs. Jovhar further
explained that they had been “engineered” by the Curators to use cells from their own bodies
instead of eggs. “It’s one of the reasons that the Kryst have only half of the code. Our symbiotic
partners the Voodon have the other half” he finished saying when they were interrupted by a
message over the ship’s intercom.
“We are approaching the system at the coordinates you gave us Jovhar. Six viable planets and large
moons with atmospheres around a Blue Giant!” came Luther’s voice “The Captain would like you
and the others to meet her in the Ready room.” Luther finished. The previous conversation was
shelved till they could ascertain the fate of the Escape pod and its occupant.
Solitude, Birth and Rescue
As the Veklaar came into orbit around the fourth planet of the system; and much to their
surprise, they were contacted by a space command centre asking who they were and what purpose
did they have in being in this sector. The voice sounded mechanical; and slightly female, speaking in
perfect Interlac. Krysta explained and the voice told them to standby for further instructions and told
them where to put the ship in orbit. The coms fell silent; Jovhar looked at Krysta and did what can
only be described as the classic Gallic shrug.
“That sounded like a female version of a Mechanoid voice?” Trok said equally puzzled. “Jovhar; did
any of your race ever create artificial beings like the other Mechanoids and myself?” He asked.
“Yes, but nowhere near as sophisticated as you or your kind; they were more like the intelligent
serving droids on this ship. Some were made in a humanoid form, but that was purely for “Pleasure”
purposes. I’ve never heard of them being used for more technical tasks?” Jovhar replied; also
puzzled. The voice came back and gave two sets of landing coordinates; one for the central
reservation the other for the emergency pad of the facility. After asking which was their preferred
choice; Krysta chose the latter, it ended the conversation with “Thank you; your landing party will be
met” and singed off with a ping and a click. Krysta assigned T’luha; Tom, Hubris and herself as the
first contacts. Jovhar would come later with Trok; Jennifer and Doc Stenerton. Krysta fingered her
father’s blaster; then had second thoughts, thinking “Maybe best not to give a hostile impression”
And the group departed to the docking bay to board a Lander. Krysta changed he mind and had
them board one of the two four man scout craft. These weren’t as bulky and imposing looking than
the Landers; and could be landed in tight locations. Scans had shown the area to be compact;
surrounded on two sides by squat, pitched roofed buildings. And there was some kind of artificial
lake or reservoir near too. Krysta piloted one and Tsu the other. Tsu and Marcia volunteered their
skills for this mission and after a moment’s thought; Krysta agreed to let them “tag along”.
Tom and T’luha noted that many of the races out by the rim had such
similar features; it could be assumed that they had some kind of common
ancestor. The Voodon that met them was wearing a long sarong type
outfit. He introduced himself as P’Setar in a soft but deep male voice. He
listened to why they had come to the facility, what their mission was and
nodded periodically.
“The Kryst you seek was unconscious when my predecessors came across
her escape pod. The stasis system was inoperable. We were amazed that
she survived the landing. If her trajectory had been a degree lower she
would have impacted the escarpment over there. We treated her as soon
as the scout party brought her in. Emergency treatment is our forte here at Mutrass. It was tricky as
she was “with child”” he offered in return adding “Our two races go back a long way into pre-
