P. 2
Preface
This is the second series of The Chronicles of The Tribe. In this first Chronicle of this series
we travel some decades into the future from where Chronicle 5 left off. In this series I have tried to
keep a more rigid grammar structure. However; form time to time, and usually because the speech
pattern of a character is awkward or unusual, the grammar may drift. To that end I am aiming this
series more toward older children, as they will appreciate good grammar whereas younger kids just
want to hear or read a good story. As before there will be five Chronicles in the series numbered 6
through to 10. The first of these is made to set the scene for the rest, so not much violence to begin
with, however I cannot say now if that will be always the case. Sexual content where the storyline
requires, will be implied rather than be explicit. (Interpretation is left to the reader’s imagination).
I had intended that the first series could be used by teachers/schools as an aid to teaching
good and bad grammar. It is up to the tutor as to how to interperate that. But in lieu of a suggestion,
I hope pupils might want to try and correct the grammar without destroying the flow of the story
and without making the characters sound too “posh”. I believe it can be done, and the pupil should
learn from the experience. I would also suggest a cross lesson project incorporating English, Art and
Media studies. For example; the writing of a script to an animated film based on the chronicles, the
creation of the artwork etc. and the use of Computer time and media work to produce the finished
article. If permission to do that is needed; especially if the completed work is to be used to raise or
accrue funding for a community project etc., I will try to arrange with the publisher that a means of
contacting me for a permission document issued and signed by me to be given.
This second series may well be the last Chronicles I will write, but I still have scope for other
related stories, a follow up to New Pastures is under consideration. I hope you will enjoy these
stories as much as the first set.
My Regards,
Malcolm Wright (Author)
