“So if this isn’t Krall technology, which race did make this?” Chloe asked
“That’s one of the mysteries we’re here to find out” Georg replied. They disembarked and set the
Globes off ahead to what appeared to be a doorway set into a recess in the wall.
“This material isn’t metal, it’s almost like vitrified rock” Kelvin noted as they examined their
immediate surroundings. “The Hagunenon were capable of this kind of work, but they had a very
distinctive script. I’ll send a scan back to the Terra’s hive for comparison with known examples” he
continued.
Humerus interrupted, “That could be connected with the tales of the race the Osir called the Old
ones. I’ll see if I can set a coms link up with Fendor Prime and the Osir institute. They might be able
to shed some light on this” he finished saying when a series of further clicks and beeps came over
some hidden speaker systems in the bay.
“Excuse me, sir” said the Mechanoid that had picked up the previous communique “We are to stand
back from the doors, they open outward. We are invited in!”
They all moved back just enough for the large, heavy looking doors to open. They did so silently and
slowly revealing a dimly lit chamber within.
Into the Lion’s den.
The doors closed behind them and the lights slowly brightened. The room was dominated at
one side by a large dais decorated with more Glyphs and some bas relief images of winged beasts. At
the end of the room opposite the entrance doors were another two sets of doors. In the centre were
some chaise long, and low square tables. On two of these was some glass like structures. The ceiling
was also covered in images, depictions of various life forms and varied Glyphs associated with them.
Set into one of the walls was a frosted glass fronted cavity. It appeared to contain a recumbent form.
A blue light beam scanned them all in turn. An image appeared in one of the glass
structures, it was an image of Sol system, but from hundreds of millions of years ago.
“Forgive our sudden intrusion” came a soft voice from above them “We have analysed your
communications so as to better relay our… intentions” it continued. The timbre was slightly metallic.
”I am what you would call the vessels… computer”
Georg spoke up first “What exactly do you mean by intentions?” he asked worriedly
“Oh; they are not hostile, merely that we are curious, as perhaps you are. My creators left me on
this world damaged by a collision many millennia past. It is not the first time we have been here…” A
distant chime sounded “Please wait here I have to attend to some other matter elsewhere in the
vessel. Please make yourselves comfortable!” and with that the strange voice left.
“I don’t think this computer’s thinking straight. Millennia, when it should be millions of years. It
doesn’t appear to be in control of things properly” Chloe whispered
“I agree; we’d best watch our backs. Kelvin are the Globes working?” Georg asked as he signalled
them to look at the ceiling
“Yes; they’re working fine, though I still can’t get any readings on the radiation meter!” Kelvin
replied
