the reverse; and it was about three centimetres in diameter and three millimetres thick.

“That’s a three Ong piece” Fenrir said proudly; then went on to explain
the Kryst monetary system and the Token system that replaced it and
how each colour represented a value. He then recited a tale associated
with the image on the back of the coin. The Kryst children inherited the
sum total of their parent’s knowledge by genetic encoding. It cut down
on a lot of the tedious amount of time needed in education, though
some tutorship was still necessary. Fascinating as that was; what was of
more interest was the story Fenrir was reciting. She waited until he had finished and looked Jovhar
straight in the eyes.

“That story is an almost word for word repeat of an ancient “Sky God” myth of the Oogand; a
primitive race found on a world near the galactic hub. The Organd origin legend refers to a race of
“Sky Gods” who made the ancestors from the “Clays of the ground, the clouds of the mountains and
the waters of the great sky river”. Could it be possible that the two are linked in the ancient past?”
she asked.

“Our race is old, but I see where you’re headed. That outpost the puzzle box was found on is named
after one of the ancient God’s of Earth; Pan. If my studies of the Human races history are correct,
Pan was half human and half a creature called a goat. The animal died out long before the
catastrophe your people refer to as The End. It could be a common race memory embedded in our
genetic code that periodically surfaces as this legend. It could be tied in to the Matrix Code. Let me
see that image of the control disc from the building on She’brakda please; the one with the double
helix.” He said. Krysta used a pad to call up the image from the Veklaar’s archive. Jovhar looked at it
closely, said something in Krystonese to Hivlar who nodded in agreement who then said.

“The three chains that are marked correspond to the three genes that govern memory, brain
capacity and…” she started to say but Krysta interrupted her

“… Cognitive development! We really must get to the High Council with this. It could be just the key
we’ve been looking for to crack the code and find out just who the Curators really are/were!” The
three of them looked at Fenrir who was spinning coins on a small low table. He turned to them with
an odd smile on his face; as if he knew something they didn’t.

Hubris listened to what Krysta had to say thumbing his chin. He didn’t speak for a minute or
so then announced

“We need to explore that Outpost. Diplomatically things are going exceptionally well. The Voodon
Legate is also signing to the Unity treaty as well. The more of the older races we can contact the
better. Let me study the records from before the Economy Wars that we have of Terra; and I’ll give
you my reasons as to why I’m going to ask for a change to our orders. What you have told me ties in
with the initial data bursts from the drone probe that went to the Third Galaxy. You; Jennifer, Trok,
Tom and T’luha should see the encrypted data; it would save me a lot of time explaining things. I’ve
had a message from Killiris also. Remember the Untharan Captain who helped us out? Well he’s
signed himself into the clinic. He’s managed to contract a particularly nasty… Erm… STD. He was so
embarrassed that he wanted to keep it from his friend’s relatives and his superiors. As far as they are
concerned he’s taking a well-deserved break. His mates will attend in due course, also discreetly”
Hubris chuckled as he said the last part. Krysta smiled and left him to find the others to review the
data crystal content.

Fenrir was reluctant to leave his new found friends; he had grown particularly fond of
Jennifer. She had taught him a form of Universal Hand signing. Despite having the appearance of a
six or seven year old, his intellect and I.Q were off the human and Untharan scales of measurement.
