department staff on duty that night; so that the resulting scans and other data would be ready for
the “Expert” to examine. The Technician on duty read the note and removed the minute sliver and
placed it in a transparent phial. He placed the phial in a plastic steadying cradle and
started the machine doing a series of scans. It was during the third series of
transverse scans that the incident happened. At around Midnight the MRI machine
started to arc and flash and the electrics in the building flickered on and off
erratically. It disturbed the Night Matron so much she called up maintenance to
find out what happened. While on the telephone she had her back to the door to
Arthur’s room. Had she been facing it she would have noticed a bright flash of
intense light. The incident was over as soon as it had started. She turned round put the phone back
on its cradle and went to her desk. Out of the corner of her eye she noticed the tell-tale light for
Arthur’s room was winking. She went to the room and opened the door
“Now then Arthur; what do you want…” She froze the bed was empty and the sheets were scattered
around the room. Arthur was gone! In the centre of the bed was a Crystal Ball...
The Military method is… well; let’s say… slow. Sandra Marsh did not like being kept waiting.
Lance could see her temper writhing beneath her ostensibly calm visage
“Just how much longer are we expected to wait to gain access?” she patiently asked to the young
Cadet who had replaced his colleague about twenty minutes earlier
“It should only be a few moments longer Ma’am. We need to make sure that no booby traps have
been left” he replied in a trained example of non-committal reaction that was the flat response
you’d expect from a Military lackey. She stormed over and sat down hard beside Lance; almost
tipping the bench over. Lance wisely said nothing. He’d seen san example of her anger response with
another of these Military goons earlier. He hoped the poor boy would recover. In her excuse; Lance
thought, she was Fenian after all. She was about to speak when the Cadet cupped his hand over his
earpiece and signalled them to come over
“The team have cleared the doorways and seals. You and your people can now enter. Sandra
whistled to the rest of her “crew”
and ten bodies followed the
young Cadet down the corridor to
where the sealed door way had
been found. Judging by the
scarring around the door locking
mechanism; the usual military
“Nutcracker” response had
“opened” the doors. She glared at
the poor Military teams as she
and her crew entered the vast
cavern where the structure
originally called Fort Knox now
resided. The builders of the
“enclosure” had taken great pains
to recreate the location and surroundings of the buildings’ original site; even going so far as to
artificially recreate the beautifully manicured lawns surrounding the building. The whole area was
illuminated in an artificial sunlight. The light was coming from the domed surface inside the
hollowed out space. The impression this gave was that you were on the surface of Earth on a still;
breezeless, summer’s day. The team were stunned into awe filled silence as they proceeded to the
main doors of the building…

The locating of the “Telepathic” signal source took longer than expected. However it soon
became apparent that it was real and coming from a very unusual source. It took a while to pinpoint
