“A Radio Wave?” Dagnor said puzzled.
“I think I know what’s happening Dag- Captain” T’luha said correcting the form of address. She went
on to explain that; because of the way the ships’ drives “Folded” space-time around the ship. Energy
waves and patterns had more of a physical interaction “It’s like the first ships to breach the Light
barrier; and the introduction Warp Fields. They suffered similar buffeting or interaction with their
structural integrity systems. Only in our case the resulting forces have been inverted; if the readings
I’m looking at are correct” she added. She threw a glance at Leeson who appeared to be doing some
Zygon Mental Arithmetic. He nodded and spoke.
“Engineer Habra is correct sir. We have accelerated and are approaching our first checkpoint sooner
than expected. There are only a few events capable of delivering that strength of Radio burst. One is
remotely possible, another would be far too deadly to acknowledge. It has to be the star that was
going unstable; it must have collapsed into a Pulsar. The initial blast from the explosion of the outer
shells would account for the energy shifts” he informed.
“I recommend dropping to conventional hyper warp as soon as possible” Midas added. Dagnor
agreed and a signal was sent to the rest of the fleet to prepare for the manoeuvre. Doc Manson
complained about the buffeting when it got worse as the ship decelerated; but just as suddenly
stopped “Our friend is out of that suit; and…” he was interrupted by a squawking over the ship wide
intercom
“What in blue blazes is that?” Dagnor yelled. The noise stopped. Frantic tests and checks were made.
Helmsman Jarvik Thorn stopped them in their tracks and put the forward sensor imagery on the
main viewer. Before them was a scene right out of hell itself. Most of the systems planets had been

had miraculously survived. It was now on the outer edge of the devastation. Its atmosphere all but
stripped; but being so dense previously, the surface had survived relatively unharmed. After the
initial shock the survey got underway. Endeavour set about scouring the system remains for signs of
the trigger for this destruction. It was days before they found something amongst the debris. It
looked like a vast black cylinder. It was dormant and heavily battered; but it was obvious that it had
been some kind of vessel. It appeared to be made of the same alloys as the smaller craft the
Endeavour had in its Hangar. It was going to be interesting to interrogate its occupant. What
possible reason could they have for creating such havoc? What had they been trying to hide? And
just who were they? Questions that would soon have some kind of answer; the teams examining the
planet had discovered the remains of an underground base of immense proportions. It covered half
of one of the planets’ four continents…
