that Carnegie had him assassinated. But nothing was ever proven.” Lomax recanted. They
sipped their drinks and chatted for a while before returning to the incident room.
Dreck was at the Incident desk when the documents from City Hall arrived, along
with some related material concerning the Sintivar scandal. He was sifting through it when
Krank arrived.
“I’m going look into past cases. I think I’ve come across one of the Vasilly brothers before, in
my first year as Detective Inspector. Can you and Lomax hold the fort? I may be some time”
he said heading to the basement file room.
“We‘ve had a stroke of luck we think we have a bead on the bomber. Harry Hasperand, he
was in the Casino before the blasts running a Tambla scam with a crew” Dreck said and
stopped Krank in his tracks.
“Put together a profile of the case so far, I’ll be as quick as I can. We all need to get our
heads around this. The Chief’s in no state to cope. I left them with Frankie in Mercy Creek.
Tell Lomax where I am.” And he went downstairs. Dreck put together a running order of the
investigations; Whelks Murder, The Casino Bombing and something that had just recently
surfaced. There had been a report of a youth gang rumble in Bedlam Bronx that had
hospitalised ten teenagers. The fight had been sparked by claims of Syndicate alliances. It
may not be related, but in the current climate of Syndicate posturing, it could end up being
important. He had most of the materials and information ready when Lomax walked in.
Following him was Corrigan Williamson, on his own with no crew. He was holding a file
folder and a Vid crystal.
“Corrigan has found something in the Network Archives that might be connected with the
enquiries made recently at City Hall.” Lomax said. Dreck informed him of where Krank was.
“Krank may be onto something. He was probably just promoted when this incident
happened. It’s got to do with the Sintivar scandal. I was a Rookie reporter back then so no
snide comments on my dress sense.” Corrigan added. He handed Dreck the file and crystal.
Dreck put the crystal into the projection player, and while they waited for Krank they went
through the contents of the file. It was in relation to a Speight of Gang battles leading up to
the Syndicate Turf War of ’99. The vid footage showed Corrigan talking to camera and a
number of youths behind taunting each other. Lomax froze the scene; clearly visible were
two youths, younger versions of the now heads of the Carnegie Syndicate and the then
Bedlam Bronx Brawlers, latterly incorporated into the Kinray Gecko’s. The youths were
protesting about the demolition of the Recycling Plant. The demo was obviously being
staged, but what was of more interest was the owner of the plant. Lomax signalled Krank to
look at the screen as he came in. Krank gasped.
“I knew I’d seen that face before, he’s older now and is wheel chair bound. That’s Marchant
Lucerne. Oh; I found the case that first brought the Vasilly brothers to the attention of the
Force. They used to be youth gang members of the Hedebar Rangers. Look at the report I
filed back then” he said and handed the file to Lomax. Corrigan looked at it over Lomax’s
shoulder.
“That’s Jim Pleasant the Jinderball champ’s signature. I’d recognise it anywhere. This must
be when the land was being cleared for the new stadium. The locals didn’t want to lose the
