a double agent. She also leaked information to the Force. That little titbit had come from
one of her liaisons. He had been one of the Kinray Group lieutenants, until that unfortunate
business with a client’s son. Mortimer had been, not only jealous, but frighteningly efficient
with his disposal. She had hated him for denying her the pleasure. Novar had been a snitch
to the Force and had recruited Kirsty to help him and possibly be a scapegoat should that be
required. Morgana had used her knowledge of indigenous herbs to create a form of truth
serum. It loosened the tongue at the same time as acting as an aphrodisiac. Thank you Great
Grandmamma Lysisa. She had kept the knowledge of Kirsty to herself without letting it slip
and that had made it easy to deceive the poor girl. She had spotted her long before the
flight; so had made sure that Josiah was kept out of the picture until the very end. She
would never get back to make any further reports. After all she didn’t know who Josiah was
as they’d used false documents and identities on the flight manifest. So when Kirsty
reported that Morgana had met with a certain middle-aged business man from the Hedebar
district… The lead would eventually fall back to Korin, as that was who Josiah looked like,
thanks to a very accurate disguise. With luck they would be free to live their lives anew.
Kirsty on the other hand would meet a more “explosive” fate. Josiah had tampered with the
isolation fields of the engine compartment of the girl’s flight back. It would only take effect
when the craft went into hyperspace. This had all been planned well in advance in case
Mortimer or one of the others had managed to set a spy on them. The effect could also be
triggered remotely. She fingered the controller in her jacket pocket.

Lomax was going over the footage of the Gang fights, pausing when individuals he
vaguely remembered showed their faces to camera. He had the visual recognition software
on his portable computer do a reference check for each of them with the records back at
City hall. At least the portable equipment was unaffected. Two individual’s names kept
cropping up, Korin Lucerne and Robin Holloway. Supposedly Korin had gone legitimate in his
mid-twenties, according to records. Robin was now 52 and Korin 47. Their respective
families had always been at odds with each other and the Syndicates, until Robin’s
ascendance to the head of the Carnegie Syndicate. That was when the Lucerne Family went
outside the Dark Empire to make a legitimate name for themselves in the Unity as Brokers.
He copied what he had onto a pad and went to the Incident Room. There he cornered Dreck
and Krank.

“It’s beginning to look like our “outside influence” might be Korin Lucerne. He’s the only
member of the family I can find who still has interests here on Kelgar, he even “holidays” in
the family mansion in Grindor Heights, the development that replaced the Sintivar and
recycling plants in Grindor Acres. He’s looking more and more likely a suspect in the
bombing of the Casino. He’d been refused a partnership in the original Franchise
agreements.” He said after giving details of what he’d found.

“Is he still on Kelgar?” Dreck asked

“According to Border Patrol, his private cruiser is still docked and the Captain says Mr
Lucerne has not given him any orders to make the ship ready for departure” Lomax replied

“He must have made up with Cordeaux; he’s on the footage of the Casino before the
bombing having a leisurely drink with him. That was two hours before; he left long before
the explosion, so I can’t see how it was done unless he did it remotely. Besides that still
leaves Harry Hasperand, how do he and the Carnegie Syndicate fit in?” Krank asked
