“Footage from the outside of the Casino taken by the Weather drone shows Harry bumping
into a business type around the time Lucerne left carrying the same kind of brief case. He
must have switched cases implicating Harry and the Carnegie Syndicate, very clever!” Lomax
replied. “Oh and Forensics have identified the source of the explosives. It seems they were
spirited away from the Kinray’s Feebler deliveries. Our sources in the know, say that
Mortimer Glass even signed all the dockets. That must have been a forgery signature,
though, without the proper documents we can’t be certain.” Lomax continued.
“I’ve checked up on Hagron and Splitt’s claim about those letter headed sheets. The story is
right, some sheets were stolen. So that means he had the materials to make it look as if the
Hit on Whelks was done in the name of The Kinray group. We can rule Hagron and Splitt out
as innocent dupes, as much as that sticks in the craw. It seems that for reasons best known
to Korin himself; he wanted to start a Turf War. He must have thought we’d not be able to
discover his connection to all this. The fact that Splitt was once married to one of his sister’s,
Adoria Lucerne, made it easy for the connection to them possible. The theft of the sheets
was icing on the cake. There’s no vid footage of the offices so we can only assume it was
done while either of them were out or when their receptionist was distracted.” Dreck added
then Hurden intervened.
“We only have circumstantial evidence, no real direct connection to Lucerne that would
stand up in court. Oh we have trace DNA evidence at the Casino, but from outside, any that
was inside was obliterated in the bombing. The fact that the Casino footage shows him
there before the first blast could be dismissed as hearsay as he shows no sign of deceit. But
that could be very clever acting.” She said. Just then Mark popped his head in the doorway.
“We’ve had a call from the Captain of Lucerne’s cruiser. He’s just had word from the
Mansion that Mr Lucerne is dead, suicide apparently. I’ve sent Forensics and the Doc over
there. They’re waiting for one of you to direct the investigation” He said. Lomax looked at
Dreck and Krank. Hurden shrugged and said she’d tag along with anyone who went. It was
decided as Krank was the senior he’d be the one to go.
In Bedlam Bronx Carlo Perkin had overheard something that got his spine tingling. He
double checked with a couple of his neighbours who he trusted. They confirmed the same
conversation among the chatter over the “Grape Vine”. He went back to his apartment and
took a communicator from a drawer and typed in Lomax’s private access number. When
Lomax asked the code question he replied with the answer for that month.
“Steve; I’ve found… er… something. I don’t even trust this secure channel with this, is it
possible for you to meet me at the usual place?” Carlo asked.
“Sure Carlo; see you in around twenty OK?” Lomax replied
“I’ll be there. Bring that Lady reporter; it concerns her Old Man” Carlo added and cut the
connection. Lomax was unsure but if Carlo had something on Jinny’s Dad it was likely to be
interesting. He called Jinny on the Force line and told her to bring a fruit bowl. Carlo liked
Franken berries, Blue Hispas and Grimpsoles. Carlo had enough money set aside so
foodstuffs were a tastier alternative. He’d known another snitch with odd tastes; Norrie
Klank, boy was he a strange coot, wouldn’t take cash in notes only scrap metal. He told
Mark and Marcie he was going to Meadow Park to meet with an informant. He could see
