“I’m surprised that the Caveat Brigade even considered working with Whelks, his reputation
here is less than favourable after a “misunderstanding” with a Buraxin trade emissary. But;
they must have seen some kind of potential. They are under scrutiny from the Central
revenue. Something not quite right about their recent Tax returns apparently. That toxin
that was used on Lucerne is interesting. I’ll contact my Mech buddy in the Central Patrol,
you remember Maxel Hersch don’t you? He might have some idea where it came from, but
if it’s a Protectorate substance you may be out of luck tracking the source” Jason finished
saying as their starters arrived. Between savouring mouthfuls; they reminisced and caught
up on each other’s news. The main courses when they arrived seemed to be generous
portions, and the Shebra smelled sweet and fragrant. The taste was new to Lomax, he was
expecting something like Camomile, but got something more like a sweet Sage with a hint of
something citrusy. It cleaned the palate exceptionally well. Sometime later; after returning
to Jason’s home, the two of them contacted their respective agencies. Jason got through to
Maxel and gave him the details of the Toxin and what little evidence of the delivery device
Lomax had brought with him. Lomax in the meantime; contacted Force HQ on Kelgar, letting
his team know what he’d discovered from Aurelius. It felt good the two of them working
together. He’d felt lost for a while when Jason’s family had left for the Unity. His work
colleagues didn’t quite make up for the interplay he and Jason had, still had it would seem.
Lomax finished and set his communicator to receive a data stream from the Archive on
Nibura, a Sonoran Trust colony that was primarily a vast global data store. This data store
specialised in toxins, venoms and other dangerous elements.
“I’ve asked the Archive on Nibura to send me the data they have on known Toxins etc. from
the Sonoran Trust; you and your friends here might find the data useful I know that the
Unity Archives don’t have much in the way of data on the Trust, but, as we are working well
together, I thought our data might shed some light on those cases that the Patrol here have
unsolved.” Lomax said as he linked his communicator into the local hive-Net.
“Thanks; we don’t have a great deal available to us as yet, diplomatic proceedings being
long, and what they are. When are you heading back? I have some leave due to me, I could
take it as a sabbatical, work with you and the Force, see the methods and practices first
hand” Jason asked
“Oh the Hyperspace Conduit is suffering interference from an Ion Storm near the Border
Interchange, so it could be a few days. But yes; by all means, at least I’ll have a friendly face
to work with; you think Jenna would be interested too?” Lomax replied. Jenna was Jason’s
youngest sister; a bright Tech student in her final year at Thule Academy. She was
specialising in Nano tech and Bio-electronics in particular’ of which there was a substantial
amount more in the Sonoran Trust than in the Terra Prime sector of the Unity.
“She’d be ecstatic. I’ll give her a call. Where are you staying here? I could easily put you up; I
have all this space since Lydia passed on.” Jason responded as he loaded the data Maxel had
sent him to his local terminal. He collated the streams and punched the output to the large
screen in his study. Lydia had been Jason’s second wife; she had died in a radiation accident
while on a survey mission. The shield generators on the ship had weakened around a Blue
giant and the radiation caused cellular damage that could not be reversed.
“I’m staying at the Grindon Plaza over by the Manfred Marina. The waterfront reminds me
of your Dad’s place on Mirodon, before the Gantrax levelled the place to make way for a
