“Once; the canteen had an Achenazi day special, and Honeymoon Pancakes for desert with
Hanuba syrup. I chose the sweet Hasperat, I had intended to follow up with the salty
version, but the chef got called up to do service and none of us got the chance. If you are
going where I think you are, Dad, then put me down for a serving of Hasperat Salva. Not

sure what starter, we’ll see what they have when we get there” Jenna
responded. The three of them left for the Tower Diner in Jenna’s new car.
Lomax recollected the life he’d lead before the separation. Jenna would
have fitted in well with his ex, but that was all gone. They obtained a table
with a window seat as before and Lomax chose Hemble loaf, a sourdough
bun in rich syrupy gravy, Jenna a house special of Hasperat Salva and Bean soup and Jason
his favourite Haravad Pancakes. They ordered the same drinks as before and Jenna filled
Lomax in on her history since the separation to the Unity sector as they ate…

Hurden was the first to arrive at Mortimer Glass’s office, then forensics and Doc
Harrigan. She let them do their work while she noted and recorded the scene for her
records and the other Detectives. The elderly manservant was quite distraught looking and
cooperating as best he could. She’d take his statement later. She looked the scene over; it
was similar to the Lucerne crime scene. The corpse showed signs of sudden departure and
there were no signs other than the broken door lock that anything had been disturbed. The

blue discharge from the lips was something different, but Doc Harrigan and
Forensics would have an answer to that later. She was about to end her
recording when something caught her attention from the corner of her eye’ a
slight shift of the threads of the carpet pile. They looked like scuff marks from a
dragged shoe; as if someone walked a short distance dragging their right foot,
like a disabled person might when unsteady on foot. She went to question the Manservant;
Renworth Meriwether. She took his statement then asked about the marks in the pile of the
carpet. He replied that there had been a visit earlier by an old acquaintance of Mr Glass who
had a slight paralysis in his right leg. The marks could be from that visit. His statement didn’t
offer any further clues, so she’d have to wait for Forensics findings. Whoever did this to
Mortimer Glass was very careful not to leave any incriminating evidence that was
immediately obvious. She interviewed the rest of the staff and returned to HQ.

She gave the team her account of the scene and added something that the staff, Gaston and
Herne, and the secretary Mulan Waters had mentioned.

“The Kinray Group had taken over ownership of the business of Luis Lisette Bordeja, the pet
Food King. One of their board members; Mason Kestrelle visited Glass only about an hour
before he was discovered dead at his desk. The secretary noted the man had a distinct limp.
She had been away from her desk when he’d left so didn’t see him leave. I’m going over
there later to see what he has to say. But from what you say your informants are telling us,
Glass was an evil piece of work” she concluded

“That explains the marks you spotted in the carpet pile. I know that name from somewhere
else” Dreck said shuffling through some papers on the incident desk. “Ah; here we are. He
was involved in another takeover a couple of months before Kinray Group made their move.
There were rumours that he was involved in some insider trading scheme, but that fizzled
out. He’s currently serving on the boards of six companies in an “advisory” role. Two of
