Objectives:

UNIT-I WATER TECHNOLOGY 9
Water quality parameters - physical, chemical &biological significance- BOD, COD- definition significance -
estimation of hardness by EDTA method - boiler feed water – boiler troubles - softening of water - zeolite process -
demineralization process - internal treatment methods - specifications for drinking water BIS - WHO standards -
treatment of water for domestic use - desalination - reverse osmosis -electrodialysis – UASB process.
UNIT-II ELECTROCHEMISTRY AND CORROSION 9
Electrode potential - electrodes - standard and reference electrodes, glass electrode. Nernst equation - emf series–
applications. Galvanic cells and concentration cells-applications-pH measurement, acid-base titration, potentiometric
redox titration – conductometric titrations.
Corrosion - causes- effects of corrosion - theories of chemical and electrochemical corrosion – types of corrosion –
galvanic, water-line, intergranular and pitting corrosion - passivity - factors affecting rate of corrosion - corrosion
