                                                 “ROCK” PAR*

magine walking into the UNO library. It was during those warm summer months. A
man sat doubled over a far table with as pensive look on his face. He is John Mor
rissey, English teacher at RHS, and he was vigorously at work on a play which
would be put into production that fall at RHS. The play was “Rock Around the Block"
This parody of the 50’s, was a sold-out performance, staged Oct. 4. and 6.
The play commences in the Bleaver family's living room. Beaver (Dan Radicia),
Wally (Ted Plugge), and Eddie (Joe Abbott) are getting ready for their dates. The scene
then changes over to the Cunnington residence where Joanie (Christie Distefano),
Richie (Jeff Carter), Jenny Pocollo (Stacy Lawson) are also getting ready for
their dates. Later, the group is seen entering a movie theater where, upon arrival,
/ into an argument with a bunch of kids in a gang who pick a fight with

                  the other boys.
The actors involved in the play were students. Teachers were also given
roles which, as stated by Morrissey, “gave the play a more realistic aspect."
Approximately 101 freshmen and sophomore students auditioned for the
play. Due to the large response, Morrissey said he added a few parts to
the cast. The group had four weeks to put the play together.
Morrissey was inspired to write mostly because he said he enjoys it.
He feels, “It is exciting to see people enjoy something you have written.
Putting on a play takes more time and effort than most people realize.
I respect and admire those who go on stage and memorize lines. It takes
a lot of guts and determination.”

Cast members o f “Rock” smile pretty
