The V arsity Baseball Colonels accom plished
much this season. An especially rem arkable
task that these younq men successfully
com pleted w as qivinq coach Krum pelbeck
another year with more than twenty wins. It
was a season filled with extra work and
positive team spirit. By the end of the
season, with all the hard work and team
com raderie, it w as difficult not to have a
winninq record.
Before the season started, most people
were not really sure how well the team
would do, especially after the talented
qroup that left the previous year. Even
thouqh some fans wanted to dwell on the
past, the team stayed focus and becam e
determined to win for them selves. The senior
leaders welcom ed the younq juniors and
sophomores to the team, and the players
really qot alonq qreat. This special bond
between the players helped them becom e a
stronqer team who could play better
toqether, and sim ply win qam es.
The season started off a little rouqh with
touqh losses to less talented team s. Coach
w as still movinq people around to different
positions until the combination finally
clicked. O nce the team found the startinq
nine, thinqs started turninq. Sparks flew with
homeruns from Mattie Klein and qame-
winninq hits from Brett Stayton. Pitchinq
from Adam Warninq, Chris Gerw e, and Dave
Brueqqeman kept qam es within reach. Also,
outstandinq defense from Loqan Siemer,
Brennan Schlaqbaum , and Neil Martin made
the pitchers feel at ease. The team sim ply
won qam es when they needed. All the
younqer players stepped up when they were
qiven the opportunity. With all qrade levels
playinq, everythinq w as lookinq qood for
the colonels. Sadly, the varsity's season
ended in a well-fouqht qam e in the district
semi-finals aqainst Boone County. This
talented team proved many people wronq
this year and served as a qreat exam p le for
future team s to follow.
