for the stunning loss. Governor Dummer next visited the Quaker
campus, and shut out the home team, 20-0. Coach Zeoli, never satisfield
with a losing record, instilled some Zeoli hustle into the team. Con
sequently, the Quakers halted Marianapolis in their next outing, 22-6.
Co-captain Mike Rotelli sparked the M B. victory with two touchdowns,
one on a 71-yard punt return, the other on a 12-yard sweep. Battling
for an even record, the Quakers came up with a sterling effort to sub
due a highly-tooted St. George’s eleven, 32-28. With a four-touchdown
performance from co-captain Rotelli, the M.B. team jumped off to a
20-0 lead that it never lost. This victory evened the Quaker record at
3-3- Moses Brown next journeyed to Pomfret for a game which was
a predicted toss-up. It ended as such, with the score knotted at 22-22.
The Quaker eleven led 22-14 late in the game, but an intercepted M.B.
pass was run back 51 yard for a touchdown, and, with the two-point
conversion, Pomfret tied the score. In the final game of the season,
Thayer, undefeated, untied, and unscored-upon, crushed a spirited M.B.
eleven, 44-0.
Throughout the season, linemen Jim Medoff (co-captain), John
Brewster, Terry Haas, and Lou Jackvony were outstanding on offense
and defense. The backfield was highlighted by co-captain Mike Rotelli
and quarterback Dave Wetzel. The Quakers placed four players on
the first and second Rhode Island All-Prep elevens, Co-Captains Jim
Medoff and Mike Rotelli were elected to the first team, while the
pass-catching duo of quarterback Dave Wetzel and end Chris Kent
placed on the second team. The season officially ended at the annual
Football Banquet on Saturday, February 6. The evening was high
lighted by the awarding of the Quaker Most Valuable Player Award
to co-Captain Mike Rotelli. The Parents’ Boosters Association gave Wetzel flips one to Wheeler
each player a blue windbreaker with his number on it.
