This year’s basketball team experienced the growing pains
that occur with the initiation of a new coach. With only three
returning lettermen, Coach Peter Mulhausen faced a huge
rebuilding task, and such a task usually takes more than one
year. The season started out on a bright note as the team
knocked off Wilbur High by the lopsided score of 56-15. Dave
Wetzel with 13 points and Bill Wheeler, a junior who didn’t
play basketball last year, with 12 were the leading scorers for
the M.B. five. In the first interstate prep match, the Quakers
lost to a strong St. Andrews team 65-43. The game was very
close until the fourth quarter when St. Andrews widened the
gap. Dave Wetzel with 14 points was once again the high
                                                            scorer.
The next three games were all heartbreakers for M.B.
Playing Assumption for the first time in the school’s history,
the Blue and White lost a close one, 62-56. The next game
against Thayer was the same story. Although M.B. led most
of the way, they could not pull it out of the fire. The turning
point was when Dave Wetzel and Bill Wheeler fouled out
