Because of the many hours of
travel time, the members developed
an unusual tolerance for sitting.
Almost any activity of diversion was
welcome. Many used the hours to
read, write letters, and — of course
— to sleep.
Coach Carver helped relieve some
of the boredom by creating games,
puzzles, and contests which he
mailed to the groups. The members
completed the games and contests
and then mailed them back to Coach
for judging. The students’ handiwork
was on display at the “Welcome
Home” potluck dinner.
