Why even bother taking a foreign language? That's a
question many students ask themselves each year.
According to Jan Lund, French teacher, "The benefits
of taking foreign language in high school are quite
rewarding." Besides offering the usual classes each
language has its own club. The clubs all participate in
fund-raising projects throughout the year. The senior
members then use their share ot the profits for a trip to the
club's respective country.
For instance, the French Club is planning its first trip to
France instead of its usual vacationing spot of Canada.
"The trip to Canada has always been fun, but I feel that
going to France will be even more so," commented Lund.
The reason for the change in where they will travel is due
to the dropping of the prices for such a trip. The cost has
gone from around $1,800 to $1,000 leaving from Chicago.
To get to their departing point the members must also pay
$200 round trip. They will also need about $150 to $200
in spending money. The club knew that they would be
going at the December parent meeting. Because of the
cost and having to make all the arrangements in advance,
the parents had to pay the $1,000 fee early in the year.
If everything goes well this year and the trip is a success
going to France will be just one more thing for the future
French Clubs to look forward to.
