New football coach sees
day-by-day improvement
“The win-loss record of the 83-84 varsity football team
was not that spectacular, but the team got better every
day, and that's what I like to see when I'm coaching,"
stated head coach John Blazek.
Blazek encourages the players to go out for other
sports every season, but you can bet that if they're not
in sports, they will be in the weight room lifting weights. After
football season is over, if the players are not in another
sport, then they're in lifting weights after school from
November until April. Then in June the football team is back
on the field throwing the ball, and getting ready for the
next football season.
John Blazek, the new head coach for varsity football,
took the position the last part of the 82-83 school year
when then head coach John Osborne took a coaching
position at McCarther High School in San Antonio, Texas.
Assistant coach Doug McLaughlin also took a coaching
position with Osborne.
Blazek has received a lot of attention since he has
been at Ralston and stated, “It comes with the job, but
this type of publicity doesn't flatter me. Down in Wichita,
Kan. where I attended college, I would spend about 20
minutes everyday from football practice just with the

enjoy working with the students here, and the staff is easy
to get along with."
