Small groups this year again out
standing. Such groups as the brass
S1 • J
sextet prove this. This is the eleventh
straight year that they have received
a superior rating. Other repeating
s u p e r i o r groups were the brass
quintet, trombone trio and the wood
wind quintet.
Soloists this year were remark
able. Three of the six soloists were
freshman and two of them received
superiors. Five of the six soloist
were first timers in contest. Gwen
Marolf was the only repeater, and her
trumpet solo gained her a superior
for the second time.
Winners of the "Joyce Johnson
Award" this year were Shelley Fry
and Gwen Marolf. The outstanding
muscian was Ann Jackson. Twelve
seniors leave the group this year,
but with all the upcoming talent, the
R a l s t o n Band has a lot to look
forward to.
