"... sometimes you have to pose for like 45 minutes and you're just
sitting there in that same pose forever." -Freshman Mandy Pleskach
How did you be
come a model?
"You go to an
agency and you
sign up with them
and you just go
from there and if
you get work, you get work. I
went to John Casablanca's and
that was lower priced, so I went
there . . After you get done with
all your classes, you sign a con
tract for two years. It's (model
ing) fun and you get to meet new
people and sometimes it's not
too great because you have all
that makeup on your face and
you get tired out because some
times you have to pose for like 45
minutes, and you're just sitting
there in that same pose forever.
You have to put a lot more
makeup on than normal because
of the lights ... I don't wear any
makeup, so it's a lot to me. The
people at Richman Gordman do
it. They put the makeup on re
ally fast; it only takes 10 to 15
minutes, and we just pull my
hair back. It takes me a while to
get dressed. Then we just wait
for the photographer to get ready.
I'm with a different agency now,
Nancy Bounds. Today I have
one of my classes. They may be
a lot meaner, but it's better for
you. This is my third class and
I'll be graduating from their
school in June. You learn how to
walk on the runway. Right now
I'm taking the Pro class because I
already knew how to dress. We
learn how to walk, put on
makeup, face expressions." How
Often? "Whenever they call me.
I'm going to have an ad come out
this Sunday, but usually it's about
once a month. I usually just do
shirt shots. I usually get paid $35
an hour and it takes about an
hour and a half." Modeling in
the future? "Hopefully, if I can
and if not, I' 11 just start teaching."
