" . . . It was like 18 degrees. They wouldn't let us wear coats or
earmuffs. We had leotards and tights on. I'm surprised we didn't
           have frostbite.” -Sophomore Chelsea Bloyd

                        lege instructors
                        that come and they
                        just watch and see
who looks good and then they
nominate you. So you have to
make sure that you're seen. The
          people who are nominated, they
teach just those people a dance
and on the last day we have a
student dance, and they pick the
three best people from the Mid
western states. I was the only one
from Ralston . . . The first couple
days I got there was pretty much
just learning dances. We got up
around six and learned dances all
day. The second day that we
were there we had an NBC re
hearsal. We had to go to Time
          Square and the cameras were
there and we had to stage it with
a celebrity. The first couple of
days. . .all we did was practice.
After that we had free days. We
went to a Broadway play, "Phan
tom of the Opera”, and we got to
go to Rockefeller Center, and we ast dancing gets every

parade? " We had to get up at
four in the morning. We were the
opening act of the entire parade.
A lot of work goes into the parade
that you don't know about. It
          was like 18 degrees. They
wouldn't let us wear coats or ear-
muffs. We had leotards and tights
on. I'm surprised we didn't have
          frostbite. Finally 8 o'clock came
and we did our number. Because
we were the opening act, we
didn't have to go through the
parade. We just did the opening
act and went around the corner
and did it once more . .
