“This summer Nathan Burggraff and I attended the annual

yearbook seminar, hosted by Eckerd College, on June 23-25.

We attended classes discussing topics on photography, team

building, advanced layout, and designing with type. We com­

pleted homework assignments with our lab group that included

creating graphic portfolios and sample layouts. There were

over fifty schools from

both private and pub­

lic schools and in­

cluded middle school

through college-age

students. Throughout

the week students had

to develop the theme

for their yearbook and

create a story board to

illustrate it. The last

day the judges chose

the top three boards

and awarded them prizes. First place received a trip to Dallas,

Texas; second place received a four-color cover or the equiva­

lent; and third place received a digital camera or the equiva­

lent. After staying up all night to complete our board, Nathan

and I won second place. Since we had decided on a two-color

cover instead of four-color, we accepted the equivalent and

were awarded

$850. This money

went for a color

copier, printer, and

fax machine for the

yearbook depart­
