14 boys to start the season, the possibility of not having a
                                                                     freshman team hung over the heads of the players.  With the
                                                                     help of a few sophomore players, the dedicated freshmen
                                                                     proved they had what it takes when they secured a solid win
                                                                     over Plattsmouth in the first game of the season.  More kids
                                                                     joined, and although they had a few tough losses to rivals Skutt
                                                                     and Gross, the boys never gave in.
                                                                      A key turning point came when the team was facing a 6-point
                                                                     deficit against Fremont.  With 1:21  left to play, defensive line­
                                                                     man Mark Weidner recovered the opposing quarterback’s
     Rams defensive line blitzes the opponents quarterback
                                                                     fumble for a 25-yard touchdown to put the team up 7-6.  “All I
                                                                     could yell was 'Run Mark Run!”’ said receiver Joey Weber.
                                                                      Another close win over Gretna proved just how scrappy the
                                                                     team was.  Facing a fourth and long, Ben Ulrich caught a td
                                                                     pass with  15 seconds left on the clock.  A 2-point conversion
                                                                     by Chris Bourke put the team ahead, and with two seconds left
                                                                     Dillon Lapour intercepted a pass for the win.
                                                                      Scott Passmore was one of the only kids asked to suit up for all
                                                                     3 levels.  “My biggest accomplishment was being able to suit up
                                                                     and play for varsity.  To see the leadership the captains showed
                                                                    was really cool.”  Overall, the team had a major impact on the
                                                                    varsity players and coaches, who have confidence they will be
