The Presidential campaign of 1988 was brought to ft?1** ;
Allentown College in the form of a mock Presidential
m m m m
debate. Sponsored bg the Politics Club, members of
the College Democrats debated members of the College
Republicans on some of the major campaign issues.
Juniors Dan Clark and Ed Jones represented the
College Republicans against Senior Hugh Drummond
and sophomore Lgnn Ryan of the College Democrats.
Both sides presented their candidates’ stands on hot
topics such as defense, education, the environment,
and economics. Each team was able to rebut the
other’s position in classic political style — rhetoric
and all. The final portion of the debate was devoted to
students’ questions.
The mock Presidential debate attempted to give
students a better idea of the candidates in the running
and what the election of each could mean for the
nation. It stressed the importance of student
participation in the election and of the right to vote.
The debate was well attended and was the highlight of
the Politics Club’s Political Awareness U/eek.
